Environamental Engineering: challenges in a world in dangerous

Environamental Engineering: challenges in a world in dangerous

In Brazil we have a lot of options of major to choose, in private and public universities. Normally, people are interested in public universities because they do not need to pay to study there.
My parents always support my studying, so before I chose my major, they gave some options. I researched about it, and three things called my attention to choose Environmental Engineering.
The first, it was because I always liked math and to solve the problems, so that is exactly the job of the engineer. And because Environmental Engineering is expected to have a good field of work in the future and in some places it is considered important with a good salary.
In second, I study in a Public University, so I do not need to pay to study there and normally Public Universities are better than private universities.
Finally, it was because the University that I study is in my home town, so I live with my parents, and do not need to travel or live in another city to study.
Engineering is hard, mainly because of subjects related to math and projects we need to create. I like to create projects and to resolve problems that involve my community, for example, flood problems. In my city, we have problems with hard rain, so I want to resolve or help my city to get over this problem.
However, I do not like some subjects in my major. Humanities, chemistry and biology are some that I do not like because they do not interest me.
My major is considered new if compared to other engineering, like civil and mechanical, because of that do not have a lot of field of job like these engineering. But the world needs someone to create methods to resolve environmental problems and give some ideas to people follow the right way. In small cities like mine, it is difficult to find job, but in medium and big cities, there are big companies and there are vacancies to work for government. I hope to work in a big company to travel around the world working, or to government.
With my major I can create projects to resolve problems like air, water and soil pollution, flooding, and to find solution to problems in a company, like what do with a big quantity of material that the company will not use.
When I was in Brazil I was working in some projects in my university and city hall. In my university I have a project related to reforestation and environmental awareness. Another project is to flooding that I did an analysis of the areas with the problems and got to create a map related flooding and time. This project I did in the university and the city hall, and both support me.
Is common and mandatory to do internships to conclude our major, we need to work some hours, for example, I need to work 400 hours and write a report about it.
